Congestion Charge

The Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce are running a series of events to let businesses have their say on transport plans for Greater Manchester.

Greater Manchester businesses will get a chance to have their say on the controversial Transport Innovation Fund (TIF) proposals at a series of events being organised by Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce. Under the current proposals Greater Manchester will see £3 billion worth of investment improve public transport in the area and the introduction of a peak time congestion charge.

The events will give every business the full facts on the congestion charge and details of the public transport improvements in their area. Representatives from Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority (GMPTA) will also be on hand to listen to concerns and answer any questions. A special event is also being held to focus on the specific impact of the plans on the haulage sector.

The briefings will take place at the following locations and venues:

Rochdale - 8 July (8:00 -10:00am) Zen Internet Sandbrook Park, Sandbrook Way
Trafford (haulier focus) – 9 July (8:00 -10:00am) Quay West Trafford Wharf Road
Bury – 9 July (12:00 -14:00pm) DTE House Hollins Lane
Bolton – 10 July (8:00 -10:00am) David Lloyd Chorley Street
Oldham – 11 July (8:30 - 10:30am) Honeywell Centre Hadfield Street
Salford – 14 July (8:00 -10:00am) Ramada Hotel (Songbird Suite) 17 Trafford Road
Wigan – 14 July (17:00 - 18:30pm) Wigan Investment Centre Waterside Drive
Manchester – 17 July (8:00 - 10:00am) Midland Hotel (Stanley Suite) Peter Street
Tameside – 22 July (8:00 -10:00am) Brother UK Shepley Street, Audenshaw
Stockport – 23 July (8:00 -10:00am) Alma Lodge Hotel Buxton Road

Commenting on the upcoming events, Richard Critchley, Transport Policy Manager for Greater Manchester Chamber, said: “ The events will provide businesses across Greater Manchester with the opportunity to find out the precise details of the bid, something that the Chamber has called for since the proposals were first put forward. The briefings will cover the intended public transport improvements and congestion charge, so that businesses can make an informed and reasoned decision on whether to support the proposed investment.

“The Chamber is encouraging all companies to look carefully at these plans and fully engage in the debate over their merits. There is an offer on the table to rebuild the transport infrastructure in Greater Manchester and businesses should give these proposals the attention they truly deserve and decide if it’s a deal they can accept.”
