ASPIRIN FOR PRIMARY PREVENTION IN DIABETICS
ASPIRIN FOR PRIMARY PREVENTION IN DIABETICS
Research printed in the British Medical Journal BMJ considers the use of aspirin for prevention of heart attacks, known a primary prevention.

Aspirin is recommended by key guideline agencies for the primary prevention of cardiovascular events in people with diabetes, although with some inconsistencies. Existing recommendations are primarily based on indirect evidence extrapolated from large trials of populations at high risk of cardiovascular events. Evidence supporting the efficacy of aspirin therapy in trials of only people with diabetes is scant.
The persisting uncertainties form the basis of this meta-analysis of trials on the benefits and harms of aspirin in people with diabetes and no pre-existing cardiovascular disease.
Conclusion: A clear benefit of aspirin in the primary prevention of major cardiovascular events in people with diabetes remains unproved.
