KASHRUS OF MEDICINES & RELATED PRODUCTS DURING THE YEAR, AND ON PESACH.
Doctors in the surgery clinic, and patients, are grateful for the latest edition of HAKOHOL includes an article on by Rabbi A Adler on Kashrus of medicines and related products. Rabbi A Adler is a pharmacist in Gateshead who has undertaken for many years the study of medical products ingredients for kashrus during the year, and also for Pesach. HAKOHOL is published by the Union of Orthodox Hebrew Congregations (UOHC) and the booklet is available from many outlets including kosher supermarkets.
The contents then lists the medicines as well as other areas such as baby milks, cosmetics, common symptoms and meal replacements which are increasingly prescribed in medical and nursing practice.
The symbol for each product indicates:
NK not to be used during the year and on Pesach
P may be year during the year an on Pesach
K may be used during the year but not on Pesach
MK contains unsupervised milk but is otherwise kosher for the year
MP contains unsupervised milk but otherwise kosher and can be used on Pesach
We are all grateful to Rabbi Adler for his unique painstaking work and detailed analysis delivering a comprehensive list of medical products.
The list for the whole year is available on the web from London Beis Din:
