ADHD NEW SUPPORT GROUP
ADHD NEW SUPPORT GROUP
A new Jewish support group for parents of children with Attention Deficit (Hyperactivity) Disorder has been set up.
The group, JADDS (Jewish Attention Deficit Disorder Support) has been set up by parents for parents. “There are support groups in the North West, and national ones, but there is nothing that specifically meets the needs of Jewish parents. Jewish children have needs that may not be catered for by mainstream groups – for example, connected with Jewish schools, accessing culturally appropriate resources, coping with Jewish Studies, attendance at synagogue or coping on Jewish holidays and holy days.”
The ADHD definition states that ADHD is a disorder that affects a child's ability to concentrate and stay focused. Although symptoms of ADHD can differ with each child, many children who suffer from ADHD have difficulty following directions and finishing tasks. They are also very impulsive and have excessive energy. The definition of ADHD states that children who are ADHD exhibit these behaviours; which can appear to be typical in many active children from time to time, in an extreme manner. Their behaviours interfere with their ability to function socially and in school settings. These behaviours are not considered to be age appropriate and cannot be explained by a change in the child's life; such as a divorce, a family move or a new baby.
Currently 3 support groups operate in Manchester.
Call more details and to register for any of these groups.
There is currently no cost to join JADDS or to attend a group. All groups are run informally by parents for parents and only parents of ADHD/ADD or similiar diagnoses may attend. All meetings are treated with utmost confidentiality.
Does your child have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or Attention Deficit Disorder or if you would like to be involved - please feel free to contact on 0161 660 9124 and leave a message, a volunteer will respond to you as soon as is possible. Confidentiality assured.
